"Assembling Together"

"Assembling Together"




"not forsaking our own assembling together,as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; & all the more as you see the day drawing near."
-Hebrews 10:25 (NASB)


This passage is often cited as an incentive to get plugged into more fellowship/church attendance,but it can also relate just as well to any gathering of 2 or more believers in Christ's name. Even the Lord said Himself........

"For where two or three have gathered together in My name,I am there in their midst."
-Matthew 18:20 (NASB)


It's so fascinating to note that the Greek word translated "assembling together" in this verse is used only 1 other time in the New Testament,& there it is translated "gathering together".........................


"Now we request you,brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ & our gathering together to Him,"
-2 Thessalonians 2:1 (NASB)


In this verse,Paul was reminding the Thessalonians of his previous letter to them,in which he had written about the return of Christ & the gathering together of all believers to meet Him in the air................................

"For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord,that we which are alive & remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout,with the voice of the archangel,& with the trump of God: & the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive & remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: & so shall we ever be with the Lord."
-1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 (KJV)


Perhaps the writer of our text verse,since he was using the same unique terminology,was referring to the same event. That is, whenever there is an assembling together of believers,it is in a sense a little preview of that great gathering in the skies when Christ return,as we exhort one another to "look for Him" & so much the more,as we see the day approaching.......................


"So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; & unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation."
-Hebrews 9:28 (KJV)


Since our passage does not actually mention the church by name,it seems to apply to any assembling of Believers. However,there is 1 very significant use of "church" in Hebrews,& it refers specifically to the coming meeting in the air,where we shall all gather at the "general assembly" & church of the firstborn,which are written in heaven,& to God the Judge of all,& to the spirits of just men made perfect".


"to the general assembly & church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven,& to God,the Judge of all,& to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,"
-Hebrews 12:23 (NASB)


Let's not be a Lone Ranger Believer,in our walk with the Lord, let's get plugged into fellowship,& get involved. Even in a big church can seem small when 1 gets involved in ministry in their church. And for those who say I don't like going to church because there is a lot of hypocrisy in it. Then you are not doing yourself any good,by forsaking yourself the assembly of other believers,for spiritual growth,& encouragement from other brothers & sisters in the Lord.



Let's be encouraged by others in fellowship & be a blessing to others as well.....
