"Be Instant"

                                                        "Be Instant"

"Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering & doctrine." -2 Timothy 4:2 (KJV)

Paul's "instruction" to the young pastor Timothy, just before his (Paul's) martyrdom, was urgently needed by Christian's in those early days of persecution & the apparent apostasy, & his words are even more true for us today. The admonition to "Be Instant" is worth a special note. The Greek word,"ephistemi", is translated in variations as to,("be present," "be at hand," "come upon," & to "be ready"). The main thing is simply is to be there, doing what needs to be done at the time it's needed. In this passage is telling us that a Christian's responsibility is to be there with the right words from the Word of God- Like the words of exhortation,of doctrine (or teaching),of reproof if needed, yet the given patiently, even when the hearer rejects the message or what is being said.

"Let your speech always be with grace,as though seasoned with salt,so that you will know how you should respond to each person." -Colossians 4:6 (NASB)

That being said, the charge applies not only to those times when we are officially on duty,so to speak. It applies to off-hours as well as work time. Be instant out-of-season,as well as in-season! Meaning be a witness for Christ,by not only the way we live, but also finding the opportunity to share the gospel. The apostle could rightly issue such a charge because he himself has set such an example.

"I have fought the good fight,I have finished the course,I have kept the faith:"

-2 Timothy 4:7 (ASV)

"Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance,"

-2 Timothy 3:10 (NASB)

It is touching that Paul could then use the same word (ephistemi) concerning his own coming death, when he said :.....

"For I am now ready to be offered,& the time of my departure is at hand."

-2 Timothy 4:6 (KJV)

He (Paul) was as ready to die as he had always been to speak, for the Lord! He was a mouthpiece for the Lord to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ...

Let be a not only a witness in our life, but also as a minister to be a mouthpiece of the Gospel as well,& to be a studious of the Scriptures.

Lord Bless you :)
